How does one correct misinformation?

I am somewhat frustrated about the misinformation that is showing up connected to my family. Wrong parents, wrong names, etc. Basically, information that has not been proven, no documentation, no sources.

One particular piece of information is regarding one of my maternal Great Grandmothers. There is a first name that keeps popping up and there is no documentation or sources for that name. The only place I have seen that name is in family trees. Also, this same Great Grandmother was illegitimate, speculation on the father and no idea of the mother, but she shows up on Family Search with a mother attached. I have added notes regarding these issues and people should use caution using this information.

Is there a way to correct the information other than adding notes?

You can do the corrections yourself, and I would add as many sources as possible. Given that so many birth, death and marriage certs are online now, I would start heavily sourcing your family. That is the best way to ward off speculative changes. Your great grandmother's death cert may have that information on it. I have such information and sources added to a couple of my roaring 20's ancestors.

Thank you for question in Familysearch Community regarding correcting misinformation.

It is unfortunate that an individual has added or changed data submitted by yourself. In these instances we would always suggest that you first contact the individual explaining why the information you have submitted is correct and that you have corrected their information. If you have sources for the information provided by yourself, they should always be added to allay any confusion..

FamilyTree is an excellent resource but reliance on it as the sole repository of your tree is inadvisable. There are many free sites on which you can add your personal tree, among them being Ancestry, FindmyPast and MyHeritage.
