Filter for Birth Country display, data entry?

I received an email about using the Birth Country display, which I've used and enjoy. But once I trace my family back to England, Scotland, Ireland (North) and Wales, it as often as not becomes 'United Kingdom' no matter what year the person is born. All of my family left there before 1801. People will often type it in correctly, but then the default correct format entry ends in United Kingdom, or in the case of the US, United States, even if before 1776. I correct what I can, but I've already spent a couple of hours on just that task. Glad to help, but could there be a software filter fix for that?

For my own understanding, is it OK to list the country as one of the above after 1801 instead of United Kingdom?
