Minor bug in Search routine?
If this is a bug in the Find routine it should probably be fixed. If it is on purpose, it would be interesting to know why.
When I do a very simple first name only Find like this to look for someone in Family Tree: https://www.familysearch.org/search/tree/results?count=100&q.birthLikeDate.from=1894&q.birthLikeDate.to=1894&q.birthLikePlace=Stord%2C%20Hordaland%2C%20Norway&q.givenName=johan
the result page shows the person's first alternate name if the person has one:
instead of the person's main name as found under Vitals:
I know that if one searches using the alternate name that that is what displays but since I am not specifying a last name here, I would expect the Vitals last name to appear.

Just as an aside, you probably know this already, but an Exact search on "Johan" will cut-out all those (possibly) unwanted instances where Johan is the middle name. For some years, it would also eliminate instances where it was followed by a middle name, but the programming has now been changed so "exact" no longer literally means "exact"! In other words, FamilySearch has reverted to its original programming, so middle names cannot be excluded from a (so-called "exact") search.

It's probably me being a bit thick (as usual), but - to be honest - I can't grasp the precise issue you're raising here - which is probably why (again, as usual) I've drifted rather off-topic!

The search is working just fine and I am finding exactly who I am I looking for. I'm going through parish registers where my wife has a large number of relatives. On the order of being an 8th cousin or closer to 80% of the people per page. As I go line by line and check to see if the person is in Family Tree or not, it is most efficient due to variants of last names to search using first name only (not exact), birth year, and birth location. If the person is in Family Tree, the person almost always appears. Except for the occasional quirk such as when I recently learned that Karolina and Karoline are viewed by the Find routine as completely different names.
My question is regarding the display of the Family Tree search results. Since no last name is specified at all, why does the result list preferentially show an Alternate Name instead of the Vitals name?
The list has always shown the alternate last name when the alternate last name was used as a search criteria. But, to repeat, no last name is specified in the search at all in these cases.
