Guggisberg BE - marriage - 1809 - Aebischer&Stöckli
Here is a URL: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939L-2BCT-Z?i=487&cc=4138674 I would appreciate a translation of this marriage record of Christian Aebischer and Anna Stockli.

Do you have more detailed information about which Guggisberg it is? There are several places with this name in the canton of Bern. From what I can read, I have the feeling that it is the area around Rüschegg Gambach:
Christian Aebischer in .........., ein Witwer (a widower).
Anna Stöckli, Hansen Tochter (daughter of Hans) zu Sutershaus (home where she is from), ..... von hier (... from here)
Freitags, 21 Aprill hier cop[uliert] (Friday April 21, married here)

The original topic title "Zbinden Family From Guggisberg, Bern, Switzerland" has been adapted to better reflect the discussion topic (I cannot see any connection to Zbinden) - see the suggestion on https://community.familysearch.org/de/discussion/129680/what-title-would-be-best-for-postings.
Second line: "… beyde von hier".
BTW - what is the year?

Exen belongs to the parish Rüschegg.
Aebischer have been citizens of both, Guggisberg and Rüschegg, since before 1800.
Church records of Rüschegg seem to beginn as late as 1818. Unfortunately you didn't give the year - but your record looks earlier: this could be the reason, why Aebischer, citizens of Rüschegg, had to attend church in Guggisberg (see map).

Sorry I cut off the year. 12 April 1785. This is from Guggisberg. The family are relatives of the Zbinden family, that is why I put Zbinden. I have record of several children born to a Christian Aebischer and Anna Stockli, and apparently there are two families with the father and mother the same name. I was hoping that by determining the place the father and mother were from, I could separate the two families of children. So is Christian Aebischer a widower?
As I understand, Ruschegg didn't become its own parish until 1860.

Sorry I cut off the year. 12 April 1785.
Thank you - has been added to the discussion title now.
The family are relatives of the Zbinden family, that is why I put Zbinden.
Still - in order to more easily find a certain discussion later, the families (names) actually dealt with in any given discussion should show up in the discussion title. Questions about their children should be asked here - please, don't start a new discussion.

This widower Christian Aebischer lived in Exen. Do you have a baptism of a child of Christian Aebischer and Anna Stöckli before 1785? If yes - is there any location mentioned? Often it is also useful to compare the witnesses.
As I understand, Rüschegg didn't become its own parish until 1860.
According to https://hls-dhs-dss.ch/de/articles/000482/ Rüschegg became an independent parish in 1860 … but already in 1813 the church was built (administered from Guggisberg as filial church). E.g. the baptismal register begins 1818.

Finally - a map indicating both, Exen and Suttershaus.

This is a baptism record of Christian Aebischer, 1 April 1785 in Guggisberg. Where is his father from? Here is the URL: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939L-LHVY-7?i=101&cc=4138674Thanks. Sharon

As I wanted to check neighbouring pages I tried to locate your "1785 marriage" in the files available from Bern State Archive - unsuccessfully. A member of this community with easy access to familysearch records provided the solution: the marriage took place in 1809 - not 1785:
I have corrected the discussion title correspondingly.
As a consequence my suggestion above has to be shifted by almost a generation: This widower Christian Aebischer lived in Exen. Do you have a baptism of a child of Christian Aebischer and Anna Stöckli before 1809? If yes - is there any location mentioned? Please, list all baptisms of children from what you assume to be two couples with identical names.

The 1785 marriage of Christian Aebischer and Anna Mischler has several children identified. The first one is a son, also named Christian Aebischer, born 1 April 1785, FamilySearch Record No. K4G1-4BB. What I am trying to determine is whether the Christian Aebischer born in 1785 is the same Christian Aebischer who married Anna Stockli on 14 April 1809 in Guggisberg. I thought perhaps if I could determine where the place Christian Aebischer was born in 1785, I could then determine if he is the same Christian Aebischer who married in 1809.

OK - we didn't have a marriage Christian Aebischer and Anna Mischler in 1785 yet - just their son, also named Christian Aebischer, born 1 April 1785.
What we had is a marriage of Christian Aebischer (widower) and Anna Stöckli on 21(!) April 1809(!). You also have mentioned that you have several children of Christian Aebischer and Anna Stöckli - and you assume they belong to two couples with identical names.
Now we have two possible routes for further research:
1) Find the first marriage of Christian Aebischer (the widower of 1809) - which may give the parents' names.
2) To clarify the situation of two couples with identical names - as mentioned before: compile all children's baptismal entries and then analyse them.

In the meantime I have systematically extracted all marriages by a Christen Aebischer between 1771 and 1813 - see https://www.geneal-forum.com/phpbb/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=32693, where I have asked whether anyone can sort them out.

Thank you so much! I have compiled a family group sheet of all the children of the two Christen Aebischer and Anna Stockli families, checking the cop. date when it was available, and also using the paternal father's names.
The Christian Aebischer (christened 26 October 1804) and Anna Stockli (christened 11 October 1772, marriage date of 25 October 1804 produced 5 children.
The Christian Aebischer (christened possibly 1785, possibly son of Christian Aebischer and Anna Mischler) and Anna Stockli (christened 12 June 1785), marriage date 14 April 1809, produced 9 children.
These are attached. Since the system does not allow .pdf attachments, I am attaching them as .jpg individual pages.
Thanks!

Thank you for the group sheets!
I had extracted children of Christen Aebischer and Anna Stöckli (note the o-umlaut!) yesterday as well (Guggisberg records only), using the locations to identify the family: luckily we came to the same results - see https://www.geneal-forum.com/phpbb/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=32693#p122373 and https://www.geneal-forum.com/phpbb/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=32693#p122374 - with direct links to the church records. I have now added links to your data on familysearch.
There are still open questions, though - I hope I'll find time later to look into it.
BTW - which is the line to your emigrating ancestor?
0 -
Thanks so much. My grandfather immigrated to the US in 1903, Albert Zbinden. Aebischers are collateral llines.

So the connection to you is via Barbara Aebischer (1723-1782) - and you have common ancestors with the Aebischer we discuss here, but they are not your direct ancestors - correct? I hope you don't mind me asking, but part of genealogy is that one wants to understand interrelationships 😉.

Yes, Barbra Aebischer (1723-1780) is my 4th great-grandmother. The ones I am asking about are not direct ancestors--they come through collateral lines. Christian Aebischer (1761) is my 4th cousin 4 times removed.

Thank you for confirming this!
I have now added some info on your line on https://www.geneal-forum.com/phpbb/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=122406#p122406 and hope to generate more attention.
