I am indexing naturalization records. On the second page it is a witness affidavit. There are not directions or instructions on how to index this page, yet it is given a page to enter information. What do I do?

The affidavit of witness belongs to Image 1. The date on that will be your record date for Image 1. Sometimes the affidavit spills over to the backside of the document. You can see an example of how to index this under How to Index a Declaration of Intention in the Project Instructions. The signature that is under Oath of Allegiance is under How to Index an Oath of Allegiance in the Project Instructions.

I have the same question. I get that the date from the second image is to be used for the first image, but are we supposed to mark the second image as "No, No Extractable Data"?

After the Affidavit of Witness section, there is the Oath of Allegiance, which is indexed. Do not mark it as No Extractable Data.

Often the Affidavit of Witness, from which we find the date for the Petition of Naturalization, isn't part of the image being indexed. I assume I am to got to split screen mode and view the next batch (plus one) image to accurately record the date. Is that correct? If so, again I assume, that I do NOT index the Oath of Allegiance that is at the bottom of that image as it is Not part of the batch I am indexing. Correct?

The Oath of Allegiance on the +1 Reference Image is not indexed. That is indexed with the next batch. The only information you get from the +1 Image is the Record Date for the PET.

I also should mention that only post-1940 Petitions have the Record Date on the back. Pre-1940 Petitions have the Affidavit of Witness section (and record date) at the very bottom of the document.
