Following is lost upon merge?

It seems like when I am Following a person on FamilySearch, if that person gets merged with a duplicate and the "surviving" ID is not the one I was originally following, I lose my Following for that person (even though it's supposedly the same person).

I don't recall getting any notification that "my" person was deleted, either.

Can you verify this is true and if so, can you fix it such that either a notice is sent or my following is automatically switched to the new ID?

Thanks

So far as I can see, my "Following" is carried through in the case of a merge. The old profile is still in my Following List with a "Person Deleted" icon. If you looked in your notifications, you should have seen the tangle of events seen when someone is merged but including a "Person Merged" statement.

The new Profile is also in my Following list.

What I can't be certain of is whether I added that resulting profile in, or whether it was automatically added in. My impression is that I was once told that, one way or another, I would follow the resulting profile. I don't remember adding it myself but...

I don't believe I've ever had to add a new follow. The new name is automatically in my list of follows, when I receive notification of the merge or if I notice the merge before the following change list arrives. I tend to check quite a few names on my following list more often than weekly to avoid surprises too late to fix them easily.

I did some poking about on this question on the beta site, and as far as I can tell, it automatically adds the star to the surviving profile. (And leaves it there if you unmerge/restore the originally-starred profile.)
