I'm working on a batch that has two images. The first is a petition for naturalization which contained all the needed information. The second is just the backside of that same document. There are names and signatures on the back, but none that are needing to be indexed.

My question is how to submit the batch? Do I mark that second image as no extractable data?

Thanks :)

Image 2 is an Oath of Allegiance which does have to be indexed.

In the What To Index in the Project Instructions:

    • Index only the following types of documents: Declarations of intention, petitions for naturalization, military petitions, oaths of allegiance, naturalization certificates, final orders, alien registrations, repatriation records, certificates of admission, name change records, and naturalization cards. In addition, index documents that are similar to these form-types.

You will then follow the How To Index An Oath of Allegiance example under What To Index. The record date is 1/31/1952.

There are a couple of changes that need to be made:

On Image 1, the surname should be indexed as Rieker Billhardt. Since this says Formerly, we know that Rieker was her former surname. If we didn't know it was a former or maiden name, you would index this as an alias: Billhardt or Rieker

The Record Month, Day, and Year have to be blank. The field help says: Please index only the record date in this field. Do not index the petition date or arrival date. Unfortunately, because the affidavit of witness statement is covered by the overlay on Image 2, you don't have a record date for this one!

The spouses given name is Max Kurt. There usually isn't a surname on the spouses for these documents. Changes are pretty good that he is Max Kurt Billhardt. But, we don't assume surnames from the name of others on a document and we don't index any information from the affidavit of witnesses, except for the date. So, the spouses surname field will be blank.

The birthplace has a typo on the index. Grimma.

On Image 2, because the Oath is only an overlay, you would only index the information on that little piece of paper which is her given and surname, Frida Billhardt. The date is on the document under the overlay, so it would not be indexed. Instruction from the Pop-Up on overlays: "Index only the topmost indexable record, or the overlay, on the image. If the document behind the overlay is also a record that should be indexed in this project, do not index the information on the partially covered document."

Field helps give more instructions for each field. They are accessed by clicking on the purple question marks that appear when you click on the fields.
