I had a question about transcribing an oral interview I did with my living relative.

What is the best way to go about trascribing a recording a family interview that you have done? Is it best to get a transcirption software, do it by ear, or both? Also if it is by transcription software, are they any free alternatives?

Hi Nathaniel - Welcome to FamilySearch Community and asking your question about transcribing an oral interview. If I were doing this, I would use software to produce a draft and then compare by listening while reading the draft, making corrections as necessary. As far as software is concerned, there are many products out there, some for free, some with a free trial, and some for purchase. They fall under the categories of voice recognition software and transcription software. I recommend you do a google search under those two categories. Hope this helps.
