Are there guidelines to resolving brick walls?
I and others have been trying to locate the father of James William Smith, for decades. No one, including professionals, can locate his parents. There are speculations on numerous trees, of who the parents are, but there is no documentation. If I can be guided in the right direction, to hopefully resolve this brick wall, I'd really appreciate the assistance. Thank you. Debra Russ

You have my sympathy. Common surnames can be super brutal.
I've beaten past a few brickwalls but yours seems a whole other level past anything I've done.
All I can suggest is posting James' PID. A number of folks here have developed differing expertise. Maybe one of us knows something uniquely helpful.

A location and a time period would be the minimum needed to make an even remotely helpful suggestion.

PID is LHTN-HS5. Thank you all, for your responses. Finding the father of James William Smith, seems pretty much hopeless. Some have speculated this is an NPE. One particular website, has my autosomal DNA matching with James and his descendants, but other Smiths show as no blood relationship. As I mentioned, many ancestry trees have parents listed, but the William Smith, doesn't add up, as the father of James. The Burge mother for James, could be potentially correct, but there's no documentation of his father. A Y-DNA test would be most helpful, but I have no one to ask, so far. Thanks again.
