Link to expiring reservations
Multiple times my close family's temple work has been reserved by far distant cousins and then they never complete it. I currently have 2 uncles (LJGD-WD7 & K23Z-TYN) who's work has been reserved since 2021. I have sent messages via Family Search and email's asking that I be allowed to do the work since I have gotten permission from my cousins, all to no avail. On 6/1/23 their reservation finally expires and I am hopeful I can reserve the work before it gets swept up by your system and sent to some temple as shared family file to be done by patrons at that temple. Create a way that when work is reserved and not being done and you know a close relative wants to do it..to be able to release it to the close relative unless the person reserving it says they don't want to do so. (the person that reserved my uncles may be dead!) OR..create a way that I can link my account to that reserved work that is not being done, so that when the reservation expires you send me an email telling me that the previous reservation is expired and you will hold it for X weeks giving me a chance to go reserve it. You all are drowning me in emails already but one like this would really be helpful to people. There are people who are using your "find a name" feature to locate very distant cousins and either reserve it and never do the work, or turn the name back to be done at any temple since they can't do it and it gets done by a random patron when a close relative would really enjoy being able to do the work. At least that's my impression since I locate relatives with a message "reserved by 'JoeBlow' and released to the temple" or something to that effect. I guess you could say "he that hesitates is lost" or "early bird gets the worm" but it doesn't feel good.

Yes it is very frustrating when people reserve an ordinance and then don't do it.

I agree! I had my sister's name shared with the temple and was picked up by a person that is taking too long do process them, I have send her messages and no answer. The ordinances have expired on June 2, 2023. I thought they would be release to Temple share were I could reserve them. When does the temple release expired reservations? I stayed up last night think it would happen immediate at midnight; but, no still reserved. Can some one help?

Since this is the first time ordinances are expiring since resuming that process there is apparently a huge backlog and it is taking time for the routine to work through the entire database. From what others have posted, it appears to be taking 12 to 24 hours from whatever the program considers to be the true expiration time for them to become available.
Regarding the original topic of this post, having a "hold" list for ordinances sounds like a great idea.
My library has one for books. You can renew the check out period for a book as many times as you like as long as no one else wants it, but if other people have placed a hold, then when your book is due, you have to bring it back in and the next person is informed they can have it now. I assume there is no limit to the people in the hold line.
For ordinances, this could be an automatic transfer to the next person every 120 days if the ordinances are not done with an e-mail notification. If someone had more than 299 names on their list, they would be have to be skipped.
The ordinance page for a person in Family Tree could show how many people have placed a hold on an ordinance.
I hope the designers and programmers will consider this.
