Why is it such a hassle when adding a document to improve/correct a name, date, or place when the new document has better data than what is on the FSFT record.

For an excellent explanation of why the current process in is place, see: https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/comment/509419#Comment_509419

To summarize: because in the Source Linker you can have no idea whether "the new document has better data than what is on the FSFT record" or not or even whether the information in the new document is correct at all. All you can know is what the particular document claims.

My suggestion: use Source Linker only for its intended purpose of attaching indexed records and tagging them to conclusions. Then, once all of the new sources are attached and tagged, check each conclusion for any needed improvements or corrections, using the new Sources tool and the Sources lists on the Edit pop-ups. Everything you need to see will be visible, you'll be able to change everything that needs changing, and nothing will be a hassle.
