Dutch Reformed Church records
Iam reviewing church records from the Dutch Reformed Church, South Africa. In the column labeled Toenaam, besides the surname there are some letters, maybe initials. The person who indexed this record took those to be the initials of a parent. I can't see any indication that that is what they are, and I haven't seen this before. But maybe this person knows something I don't. Was it a practice to indicate the parent's initials in this manner?

They are the husbands initials (you will see the names are all women). So they are irrelevent for the membership indexing. Also the event place is Paarl, Cape Province, South Africa otherwise place standardiser will send it off to Sudan

I have been indexing South Africa records for several years now and find the instructions can be very confusing. Since we are not researchers and are supposed to index only what we see with specific field help, I usually do this. However, I came across a batch in which the wanneer column was totally blank. So, I went to the General indexing guide. It states when a membership record has a date range, we are to use the latest date in the range and not from any other column. I wish they make the instructions match or at least coincide with the field help a little more.😊

I am currently indexing Batch M3FK-G4S.
it is a baptism record that has d: v: or z: v: after the child's name. Daughter of or son of. Since we are supposed to put in the sex of the child, and you have a record that says z: v: for a definite female name. As an indexer we are to put down male. Hopefully,by the time this record has gone through the process it will be correct. My best advice is to use your best judgement and if you are not sure, return the batch.😊
