Index correction: multi-piece highlight boxes

I know that the completely-different "correct anything" feature is being (slowly) deployed, but I haven't actually encountered it yet anywhere "in the wild", so of course I haven't tried it. Thus, I don't know whether it allows highlighting in multiple pieces. If it does, great; if it doesn't, it should -- and either way, in the meantime, is there any chance of the existing index-correction function adding this feature?

For example, here's "Kirn-" at the end of one line and "-bauer" at the beginning of the next line:

(It was originally indexed as Neubauer, so it only showed up as a hint on her husband.) I can only highlight either the Kirn- or the -bauer, not both, unless I highlight the entire two-line entry of "the late Mrs. Joseph Polster born Johanna Kirnbauer homemaker Felsőlövő", which would be, um, less than useful.

The new 'highlight/edit every field' indexer does indeed allow multiple highlights for a particular field at least from the playing around 'in the wild' I have done. From recollection it is not very intuitive - so will require some fiddling/getting used to. Highlights are one of the most important steps in the process - so very important to get right. I have also seen highlights inexplicably disappear in the process - so more work and learning how to get it right...

Does the new feature also allow diagonal highlight boxes?

@Julia Szent-Györgyi No diagonal highlights that I have seen - but you could bound that area entirely (though it might not separate items you might want separately indexed). I also don't think it allows you to bound the same area more than once (which could be a drawback if you did want to separate something out). It also struggles with orthogonal oriented ones from what I have seen - though it does allow you to rotate the image in 90° increments. Highlights should be done on laptop/desktop - it functions poorly on mobile device.
