Can I create a new person without adding them to my family tree?

Doing my research, I found documents that are not attached to anybody and I would like to attach them to a new person.

Can I simply create a new person, unattached to any tree, and attach the sources to that person?

Yes. In Tree go to Recents> Add Unconnected Person. If during creation of the new person suggested matches are located - you can decide if the person profile already exists in Tree.

I recommend you do a tree search first before creating a floating person. I have inherited a business ledger that was used by an ancestor in his store. This ancestor died in 1848. I have been looking up all the names mentioned in the book, taking into account proper location and birth date range required to be the person in the ledger. Most already exist in the tree.

@Gail Swihart Watson While I admit that Tree search may bring up different results - the process of creating an unconnected person does a Tree search (theoretically the search on same criteria should have the same results).
