How do I stop others from changing my family tree?
My father was adopted, and my family tree contains the names of his DNA-proven natural parents. Several times now, others have gone in and changed the names of his parents to those of his adoptive parents. This necessitates a lot of work from me to correct it. How can I discourage others from changing my information?

Thank you. The ancestor in question is my father, who was adopted, but we know the identities of his natural parents and this has been proven by many DNA links. However, someone keeps adding the names of my father's adoptive parents, and their ancestors, to my tree! I can't see why this is happening, as the only person with an interest in my Dad's ancestry is me. How can I stop this? It takes hours to correct it, and it has happened several times.

Family Tree allows you to enter both sets of parents, and to mark the type of parental relationship -- "biological" being the default, and "adoptive" one of the options.

And, after you mark the adoptive and biological parents, you can select which you want to show as preferred. I would also add an Alert Note explaining the details. I often attach a lengthy proof statement when warranted.

One of the fun things about working in a co-operative, single tree is discovering all the relatives you didn't know you had. Clearly someone other than you does have an interest in maintaining your father's complete family history which includes both his biological and adoptive families. Family is more than just DNA. It is the rich network of everyone in our extended lines including our family that is there through adoption and marriage.
If you go to the Change Log for your father, you will see the user names of everyone who has had made any changes to your father's profile, including the person who wants to keep your father's full tree in place. Click on the name and a pop up will appear and if both you and that person has relationship viewing turned on, it will show how you are related. For example, here is someone who has added to my father's Family Tree profile:
As you can see, you can message or e-mail the person who is interested in your father.

Just because I like images, here way most people, as explained above, show this type of family history:
There is room in Family Tree for everyone.
