Can anyone figure out this Ann's last name? It's from an 1870 Sligo Ireland record.

Can you share the batch code? It's at the end of the batch title in [mmmm-zzz]

Without access to the batch the writing is a bit difficult but I would guess first letter - C or maybe possibly Q - so:

    Cu[s/g/f/r]ley ... if Q, not quite Quigley...

I see Curley is fairly common in Sligo. But that's just a guess - and I have never seen an r written in that manner. I would think that is an - s or g ...

It's almost always easier to help decipher with a bit more context instead of viewing a single word or name in isolation.

Initially I thought first and third letter might be the same - but I think the first letter is - C ... But there is a possible faint left side swoop - like an O - but because of the terminating tail I would think a Q ... So my guesses are C and Q ... But maybe ...

    Ireland, Sligo—Church Records, 1740–1880 [Part A][MQSJ-2B3]

    Does this help?

    Thank you.

Here's the image from the registers.nli.ie website which is sometimes clearer. I have to say, this priest was not a neat record keeper. https://registers.nli.ie//registers/vtls000632320#page/71/mode/1up

There are several other C names - Carroll - on the page which seems to convince me the initial letter is C. So my guesses are still Cugley or Cusley. When indexing if you do not know a single character put wildcard ? - if you do not know multiple sequential characters put wildcard * - for example - Cu?ley.

I vote Cugley. There are a lot of Cugleys from Ireland on Family Search. Lots of Cusleys too, but I don't see other esses that look like that letter but I see other g's.
