Title correction

Hello,

I hope you’re doing well.

Lady Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales, was never Princess Diana. The title ‘princess’ only goes before the name of a person who is born into that position. ‘Princess of Wales’ is a temporary title given to the wife of the heir apparent and she loses it by becoming the Queen, death, or divorce.

Thank you in advance.

Respectfully,

James

You are correct but if she had lived, but never remarried, and no other title was given to her, she would have remained Diana, Princess of Wales. Any other title would have had to have been bestowed upon her by Charles and/or William when they became King in their turn

She remained "Diana, Princess of Wales" until her death, and that shortens to "Princess Diana" by everybody's rules except the English. This is one of those things that may be technically incorrect but is just too natural to ever go away.
