England or England, United Kingdom?

England became England, United Kingdom in 1801. When entering places with accompanying dates prior to 1801, is it proper to only enter just England or are all English places standardized to England, United Kingdom? Thanks

You will find that FamilySearch Places Database indeed has two different place IDs for England:

    Place ID, dates

    10579912, 927-1801

    267, 1801-TODAY

From a bit of investigation, you can select the proper one when inputting a place:

So I believe the answer is - it is proper to enter just England - not England, United Kingdom.

I know @Paul W can give a more definitive answer.

Nothing more to add! @genthusiast has illustrated the position perfectly.
