Record details no longer appear in right hand search column
Until recently, if I clicked on the person's name in the search results list, the record details would appear in the right hand search column. Now when I click on that name link, it goes to the full page view of the record details (the same as clicking on the view record details icon on the right side of the entry). I have to use the back button to go back to the search list, which refreshes, so I lose my place in the search list. I much prefer the former behavior when clicking on the name made the record details appear in the right hand search column. Have other users noticed this behavior change as well? Is there a reason for this change? Thanks.

Perhaps this is a bug. It was working for me okay yesterday, but I had the same problem just now.
The same behaviour when searching (via the FamilySearch logo link) using the "previous version", too - so not a "new person page" issue.
For now, so you don't lose your place, just right-click to open the record page in another tab.
Update - I just added a record via Record Hints (on the Details page) and this is still working as expected - record details appearing in right column (until "View Record" option used).
Hopefully, it can be confirmed whether the original report relates to a new feature, or is a bug.

Paul,
Thank you for testing this out. I noticed the same behavior with Record Hints and have been right clicking but prefer the old behavior.

Will this post be treated as a bug report or do I need to report it elsewhere? Thanks.

A moderator usually confirms when a reported bug has been escalated to the team concerned. Would be grateful if this could happen with this problem - especially if it is happening by accident, rather than design.

Paul, Thank you for explaining how these issues in the Community Forum typically work. It seems reasonable for users to report errors and for others to verify the problem or offer help. But then, an unresolved issue should get escalated as a bug report.

The search team will be looking into it.

Lyle, Thank you for the encouraging news. - Anne

It was report back that this is done on purpose. If you click anywhere else in the result row you will still get the record side sheet. Clicking on the name or the detail icon will navigate you to the full detail view.

Lyle,
Thank you for investigating this. I question this decision because most people are used to clicking on links, not large areas of a web page, and may not realize, like I, that the grey area is a link. I don't see the point of having the name and record icon go to the same page. At a minimum, it would be very helpful for everyone if this were documented.
Thanks,
Anne
