Evidence of Relationship
I want to make better matches for documents, people, and relationships, and feel confident that the matches are correct.
Why?
- I want children and parents shown in their correct family groups.
- So that I can continue the research to the next generation with confidence that I am following the correct family lines.
- So that ordinances can be offered properly.
The road block is that some profiles show the wrong parents, spouse, or children assigned to the family group. Sometimes, irrelevant documents have been attached to the individual that do not fit the time or place.
My idea is to provide a space where the tag tool can be used to specifically provide “evidence of relationship” with sources clearly matched. In this window, the tagged source documents should not only prove that the individual existed, but what their relationship is to someone in the family group, so as to help researchers make a correct assignment.
My idea is to see or be able to access an “Evidence of Relationship” window on the profile page of each individual.
Window
EVIDENCE OF RELATIONSHIP of person (of this profile ID#)
To PARENTS
Father (by name) Tag
Mother (by name) Tag
Adopted Father (by name) Tag
Adopted Mother (by name) Tag
To SIBLINGS from both parents
Sibling 1 (by name) Tag
Sibling 2 (by name) Tag
Sibling 3 (by name) Tag
etc.
To SPOUSE
Wife or Husband 1 (by name) Tag
To CHILDREN begotten with spouse #1
Child 1 (by name) Tag
Child 2 (by name) Tag
Child 2 (by name) Tag
etc.
To SPOUSE
Wife or Husband 2 (by name) Tag
To CHILDREN begotten with spouse #2
Child 1 (by name) Tag
Child 2 (by name) Tag
Child 2 (by name) Tag
etc.
To SPOUSE
Wife or Husband 3 (by name) Tag
To CHILDREN begotten with spouse #3
Child 1 (by name) Tag
Child 2 (by name) Tag
Child 2 (by name) Tag
This would improve my experience by helping me and other researchers to attach individuals to the correct parents, spouse, son or daughter more consistently.
It would also make it easier for me to not do so much notation manually as I have done for my 2gg's. See the Discussion tab for Michael Brady Bowles MTLF-CQW.
This will also steer research toward the documents that show relationships and yield discovery of additional family members as well!
With a well marked trail, those who follow will be able to pick up and continue the research, rather than copying unconfirmed family trees, and connecting sensational hear say relationships.
Kind Regards,
Christopher E Severn

The usual method is to review the attached historical records in the Source Linker. Do you already do that?

You don't indicate other types of parent / child relationships such as step, foster, guardian, adopted, etc. I assume your suggestion does not do away with displaying families that have those relationships.
