I have a list of names and dates but I don't know what category (entry type) they need to be placed under. Can you please advice on what to do next?

I have looked at the pages surrounding it and no further insight was gained; all were a list of names with dates but not indicating what the dates were about.

That appears to be an index only - with no reference as to type of record indexed.

I'm aware that it's an index. The first step to index the index is to categorize it. What should I do when I don't know what category to put it in?

From the Project Instructions we read that "... Indexes should be marked as No, No Extractable Data." In this case where there is a name and a date, the date could be either birth, marriage, baptism, or death but it is still an Index with no way except additional research to discover which category is the correct one for that particular person. Plus there's always more than one person with the same name such as Mary Jones, etc. In fact when researching I have often found the same name (person) indexed as being born, married and died all on the same date --this leads to a lot of confusion for the researcher. So, I believe the batch should be marked NNED for no extractable data.
