Calculator - Depth improvement
Sir and Madam,
I propose that a change be made to the kinship calculator, so that Family Search can calculate how many generations are needed, similar to Ancestry.
It appears your tree does not have enough generations added to find a shared relative, or the shared relative is beyond 15 generations. Learn more.
I don´t understand why the calculation is limited to 15 generations. I think an increase in depth would be useful to satisfy everyone's curiosity. I just think: why not? I am not a tech specialist, but I believe that would not require so many additional resources to implement.
Thank you in advance for accepting my suggestion.

But - Ancestry is only looking at your tree to calculate a relationship. If you have a very large tree, that's perhaps 20,000 people.
The FamilySearch tree is over 1 billion profiles.
In 15 generations, each of us has approximately 33,000 ancestors. To expand beyond would require significantly more computer power and processing time, slowing down access for all while looking for those few families that may have accurately documented that far back.

To turn Áine's comment around, in reality, too many of the links around the 15th generation and beyond are based on guesswork and so cannot be relied upon. Therefore calculating relationships that far back is speculative more often than not.

Very speculative - and why I mentioned "those few families that may have accurately documented that far back"
