RELATIVES

I can only get "RELATIVES" results for my maternal line, whether trying to locate cousins at RootsTech or being curious about famous (and not so famous relatives). My tree is complete in both the maternal and paternal lines and it includes my wife's maternal and paternal lines. I suspect that there are other functionalities that are part of the website and are available to me only in the maternal line. Why?

    Do you have several generations on the paternal side or just one or two

    If you are related to someone several ways, my understanding is that this function will go with the shortest connection. Could it be that your mother and father are related back 5 or more generations back, and that most people related to you through your father are also more closely related to you through your mother?

    One of my adopted relatives comes from a very endogenous community. Birth mom and birth dad are distantly related and this shows up in Ancestry where many DNA matches have multiple connections. FamilySearch does not show you multiple connections.

    This is a really good question.

    The best viewer I know of to see multiple connections is https://learnforeverlearn.com/ancestors

    The tool draws the tree entirely in your browser window. There is no cost, no user account, no password, nothing. To use it, you simply upload a GEDCOM. To create the GEDCOM I like to use the free basic version of RootsMagic to get a tree of under 1000 profiles from FamilySearch Family Tree.

    I can’t even see anyone for my paternal matches because my dad doesn’t even show up. Anyone know why that might be? Thank you!

    @MichelleRoot2

    Are you referring to "Relatives at RootsTech"?

    @MichelleRoot2

    I would try it again to make sure it wasn’t a temporary hiccup.

    If it still won’t populate your Father’s side, check your information in the FamilySearch tree to make sure your Father is showing as connected to you, and that there are no possible duplicates for him.

    Let me know. I’m curious as to why this isn’t working.

    :)

    Unfortunately I’ve done both. I even reinstalled the app and double checked my dad was showing as related to me. 😭 I would love to see that side and it ends on the 31st!

    @MichelleRoot2

    Make sure your father's line is connected to multiple generations of deceased individuals.

    It also may be that no one from your father's family is participating in the experience.

    I have a similar problem where only my fathers side shows, no one on my mothers side shows up and it is very extensive in my tree! Very frustrating

    I’m so sorry! I looked all over the FAQ in all areas of the site and on roots tech and can’t find anything!!! I want to figure this out before the 31st when it ends! If I do I’ll update you in here.

    Amy I thought that too about no one on that side participating. That’s the only thing that makes sense to me. I hope that’s not the case.

    Look at your Fan Chart for 4-5 generations. Do all the people look correct? Check each of those people to see if there is a duplicate in the Tree. If there are valid duplicates, merge them. See if this helps you with relatives on the side of your family that is missing in the experience.

    How can I find my Paternal line?

    It really depends on your family, and who else in your family is researching and working on the FamilySearch Family Tree.

    I have very few paternal connections on relatives at RootsTech with 1000s of maternal. My maternal line has been in North America since before the American Revolution while my paternal line arrived within the last 150 years.

    If you look by Ancestor, do you see any of your paternal names?

    I merged several discussions. It appears that your problem is not a singularity. I will see who I can get to review this issue. Thanks guys for letting us know. Maile 🙂

    Thanks, Maile! Please remind your engineering group that this functionality of the website for RootsTech is also skewed towards the matenal side on the website for FamilySearch (e.g., for the "Famous Ancestors" functionality, where I also can only see my maternal side results). Please let me know how this one issue is resolved. It would also be great if users could get to choose between maternal- and paternal-side results for both the user and the user's spouse. In any event, I'm glad I sent the original comment. You're the best! JB

    Hi guys. I am trying to get help on this. I need to know if your fan chart shows multiple deceased generations, particularly on the side that is missing.

    Do you mean, do our fan charts have lots of ancestors on whatever side is missing from Relatives at Rootstech?

    Yes. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

    I'm only seeing my paternal side. I have been looking to see what I could find about this and found this question.

    Relatives at Rootstech is showing me relatives on both maternal and paternal sides, but I don't know that I am seeing all I should be seeing. I expected an order of magnitude more.
