Head of household in Luxembourg census
The instructions for identifying the head of household in Luxembourg suggest using "head of household" for the first entry. If the first entry is "father" and the second is "mother" then should what is originally written be used? OR, if the first entry is changed to "head of household" should the second entry be changed to "wife"? Otherwise the wife is indexed as "mother" which could be confusing.

It would be easier to understand your question and to give a correct answer if we could see your batch for ourselves. If you copy and paste the share batch code here, we can pull up your batch and see it. The code is in the brackets at the end of the project title at the top of the indexing page. It will look similar to this: [MLQW-D4H]

M316-DHQ The indexer changed it to head of household and to wife.

I see what you mean, but I would just follow the instructions and change father to head of household since that's what it says to do. It doesn't tell us to change any other relationship. Unless otherwise stated in the the instructions, we normally enter only what's on the document, so I would enter the second person as mother. It's unfortunate that this wasn't thought of when they made the instructions.

Would it be appropriate to enter him as father and her as mother to keep the relationships accurate and as stated on the document? Changing the first person as head of household sounded like an option rather than a direct instruction.

I think the instruction in the Field Help saying you "may" enter head of household is saying that if no relationship is given for that first name, you "may" put head of household. But the first example for how to index these in the project instructions and also the example in the field help show to change the first person to head of household when the relationship is given. Maybe someone else will chime in with their thoughts.
