is (nou Brown) a maiden name. it is in the surname column after the surname and only seems to be associated with female names but is not nee or geb it is (nou -------)

    nou = now so in your example, Ellis was her maiden surname, and her married surname is now Brown, so the surname field would be Ellis Brown
