Many indices with "This image is unavailable for online viewing at this time"

Hi everyone,

I have found some extremely useful church records in:

https://www.familysearch.org/search/image/uri%3Dhttps%3A//familysearch.org/recapi/sord/waypoint/9PVB-ZNL%3A141480201?cc=1784529

In particular in Cieza -> Nuestra Señora de la Asuncion. Unfortunately there are a lot of links where I get the very same error:

"This image is unavailable for online viewing at this time"

For example see the entry: "Matrimonios 1566-1617"

Any idea why does this error occur? It would be really useful to get access to this information.

Thank you in advance!

I am not connected with FamilySearch

The link you provided above does not open for me.

The Catalog record is most likely https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/429793 film 1328811

In addition to the marriages which are Items 3-13 also on this film is items 1-2 "Bautismos 1934 (feb.)-1939". These latter records would be restricted for privacy reasons. Currently FamilySearch appears to restrict ALL items on a film, if some items are restricted. Perhaps this policy may change in the future

Thank you very much for the quick reply MaureenE123!

    >The link you provided above does not open for me.

Ups sorry for this, it could be that the link is wrongly formatted by the comment system. I paste it again just in case:

    https://familysearch.org/search/image/index#uri=https%3A%2F%2Ffamilysearch.org%2Frecapi%2Fsord%2Fwaypoint%2F9PVB-ZNL%3A141480201%3Fcc%3D1784529

But it comes from this part of the wiki https://www.familysearch.org/es/wiki/Registros_geneal%C3%B3gicos_en_l%C3%ADnea_de_Murcia,_Espa%C3%B1a

However the link that you shared is super useful, since there it is written whether is available, only, in the library and if can be searched.

    >Currently FamilySearch appears to restrict ALL items on a film, if some items are restricted. Perhaps this policy may change in the future

Wow this is super unfortunate since in this concrete case the most valuable volumes are together with a small portion of recent, private data. Do you know how old need to be the documents to be public?

And another question, in that Catalog is written "Spain Catholic Church Records are available online, click here.", however my feeling is that there are almost no marriages and deaths there. Is there anyway of knowing which of the volumes are indexed online?

    Thank you again.

The easiest way to find out what is available is to use Search> Catalog> Place. Availability can be determined by looking at the Format column in the Film/Digital Notes. The magnifying glass 🔍️ means that you can search the index. The camera 📷️ means you can look through the images that have not yet been indexed.

Though there are no marriage register indexes for the collection above, you can search marriages that occurred 1836-1924, if your couple was married in that time frame. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6SPQ-71H

Thank you very much for such a thorough explanation @Maile L .

Just one question, on what does it depends a registry having a search option instead of raw images? I guess it is not random but it depends on some technical aspect or someone needs to trigger it.

@alacast, the search option is available if the images have been indexed. Take a look at FamilySearch - Get Involved - Indexing to learn a little about what's involved in that.

One important note: the Catalog hasn't been updated in well over a year now, so some of its icons reflect stale information. A lot of new indexes have been published in just the past year. The way to make absolutely sure that there are no indexes associated with an image group is to try Search - Records using the image group (film) number. (The magnifying glass icon, when available, is just a shortcut to doing exactly that.)
