Restructuring your environment for us
Since you have stopped sending out microfilm, and as far as I know you never sent out books, and you are working on digitizing. It would help those of us that are looking for the digitized books for you to do one or another of my ideas.
I get all excited when I see a link that has a "click here" when I open the source. But if you really want us to appreciate what you are doing, create one link for a source, and put the books, microfilm, magnifying glasses, and whatever other types of information that are in those links where you have four different ones and I have to go through all four of them and maybe still don't find a "click here".
I especially like those where you have maybe a collection of counties and we can just click on the adjoining counties to search them. Probably most people are looking for birth or baptism records, marriage records, military records, and death records. I know that is what I search for. If you could concentrate on digitizing those categories, even really old documents, like in the 1000-1700's that would be great! I actually went all the way into the 900's for my client on the first book. She finally told me to stop on that line.
Another idea I have is to put at the list of sources, an indicator for digitized books or sources. Then do the same thing for microfilm for those that can come to Salt Lake. I cannot but others can. and carry that idea to other other types of sources. But I think the best would be to put all links for one source together. But you should still indicate which are digitized so we don's waste our time looking those that are not digitized.
Thanks, Jan
