On funeral home records they are giving date of the funeral but not burial date, though they say where they are buried. Can we assume the funeral date is the burial date while indexing?

Funeral dates can be used for the burial date on some records. The PI examples (and the PI as a whole) are imperative for every project.

The examples, "How to Index Record of a Funeral" and "How to Index a Funeral Card" show that you would use the date of funeral as the burial date.
