Somehow I created a father-son relationship for the same person. I tried to merge the two but am told I cannot. How do I rectify the error?

It appears that the two records can't have the same reference (ID) or you would not have been able to add the record as a son.

Firstly, you will need to detached the relationship - by first clicking on the pencil icon alongside the individual who has been placed as the son. Once the relationship has been detached you can merge the two records. However, do take care in comparing the details as you undertake the merge, to ensure they are a match.

You might also have to merge other duplicates that have been created, relating to other members of this family. Hopefully, this will not be the case, so it will just be a case of removing the "son" from the father (provide a reason statement like, "Added father as his own son in error"), then carrying out the merge.

Please come back if you have any problems - another user will be able to provide a link to a "Help" article, in case you are unfamiliar with the process(es).
