    don't send him a copy

simply have him create a FS account - and then POINT him at the LINK of the Family Tree in FS. all he needs is a LINK. you dont need to be emailing around the file of hundreds or thousands of people.

here is how you can share your "view" of the family tree data

    https://community.familysearch.org/s/feed/0D53A00004nyuo2SAA

If you really need a external file of the family tree

there are various 3rd party software apps that let you download from FS

but in many cases no real need for this.

Do you mean copy as in “copy/paste” sort of function?

I want to send a copy of my family tree to my brother, how can I do that? So yes, I would use the copy/paste function and place the tree in an email.

I’ve been using FS for a couple of years now and haven’t seen that function available ... you can create various family charts and lists pdf on the person tab ten clicking on the ... (3 dots) and choosing your option. Also in solutions gallery, there are several places that will copy your info and give you different printing options. Also, check geni.com and geanet. They have some awesome options for copying printing etc

Great answer @Dennis J Yancey  and that is the simplest solution, however,

I’ve had many situations where it’s not that simple though. One example would be my father who’s never been on the internet and still has a flip phone lol... or other relatives who just aren’t that bright or don’t want to go through the “trouble” of creating an account. 😂

and for those cases - if you do a download with a software like rootsmagic or others

you can download the data and then generate a pdf report inside rootsmagic that you can send to who you wish.

you can also generate pedigree charts and family group sheets in FS and print to PDF and send these files via email.

Here is a sample report from Rootsmagic

    http://yanceyfamilygenealogy.org/Sample_RootsMagic_Report.pdf

virtually any computer based genealogy package can create reports like this

but only 3-4 programs that I know of - can download from FS

Here are three genealogical forms that can be generated in FamilySearch with NO 3rd party software

    http://yanceyfamilygenealogy.org/Sample_FamilyGroupSheet.pdf

    http://yanceyfamilygenealogy.org/Sample_Pedigree_Chart.pdf

    http://yanceyfamilygenealogy.org/Sample_Fan_Chart.pdf

Inside FamilySearch Family Tree on the right hand side you will see a PRINT option that lets you generate these charts.

also this is an article about the "siloed" approach to genealogy

    versus the collaborative approach

    http://yanceyfamilygenealogy.org/collaborative.htm

    FamilySearch is a collaborative approach

Rootsmagic (by itself) is a siloed approach.

and then their are hybrid approaches - like downloads from FS to Rootsmagic
