    Urgent and very important

    Dear friends

    I have been a member of Family search for over 20 years and when I first started researching my ancestry I was able to find in the IGI records in the early 2000's many of my family members in Egypt and in Turkey and film records taken in the Armenian Catholic churches of these countries. Since then, access to these records have been restricted. I have contacted the Church in many occasions and visited local search centres and never got a straight answer. I even visited the library in Sault Lake I was told that these records are in a vault and it would take a couple of weeks to get them to the library, but I was only there for a week.

    I would like to contact a decision maker on that subject and see how we can go forward to get access to these records. I am 67 years old

    already and over 20 years have passed by since the restrictions have been implemented. With the growing interest in Genealogy across the world, it is time to lift these restrictions.

    I am not connected with FamilySearch

    I don't understand the type of records for the microfilm numbers quoted on your screen shot as they appear to be some sort of Temple Records.

    For Armenian Catholic Records in Egypt I think you want the records whose catalog entry is https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/35479 these being Parish registers, 1736-1981 Armenian Catholic Church. Immaculate Conception (Cairo)

    These appear to be only available at the FamilySearch Library in Salt Lake City. I do not understand why you were told these microfilms were in a vault as there is no indication on the catalog entry that such a restriction applies.

    Perhaps if you are unable to visit Salt Lake City again, you could hire a researcher.

    For an article about researching Armenian records see https://armenianweekly.com/2021/02/24/researching-your-armenian-roots-during-a-pandemic/ . You can click through to some videos, including one on researching records from Egypt. There is also an Armenian Genealogy Facebook group.

    Hello Maureen, sincere thanks for the information you provided. I visited the church back in 2017 and this is what I was told abut the records being in a vault.

    When I enter any of the numbers that are in the attached file I sent earlier, under search/catalog/ and search for film/fiche/Image Group # (DGS), it locates catalogues of the Armenian Catholic church records in Istanbul Turkey, where I also have some family connections there.

    I am not very well educated in geneaology researching and would appreciate if you can tell me how did you find the catalogue of the Armenian Catholic church in Cairo. Also Is this the best way to communicate or I should do this through email? Again thank you for your help

    @Paulhallal

    To search in the main Catalog, go to the FS Main Page https://www.familysearch.org/en/ and from the bar across the top select Search, then scroll down to the option Catalog https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog

    If you want to communicate with the FamilySearch Library in Salt Lake City, the Library email address is  [email protected] , see
