"Churched wife" listed in Irish christening records
I am indexing the Galway christening records and have an entry saying, "churched wife of Edward Kelly Gorman." Could it be that the wife was a convert and was christened? If so, I wonder why her name was not recorded. How would I index this? No other information is given other than the date.

In the Roman Catholic church, after a woman had given birth, and recovered from the birth, she had to be blessed and ritually cleansed by the priest before attending Mass again. That process is referred to as "churching."

Thank you! That's fascinating! Interesting that it is the only recording of this in the records I'm indexing. I'm assuming that I don't index this then?

Since you are indexing baptisms, I believe the instructions will indicate that anything that is not a baptism should not be indexed.
