We are working on naturalization records and want to know how to index children. It's not giving us a field to index the children.

thank you in advance,

Suzette

Generally, we do not index children. The researcher will see the child(ren) when s/he looks at the document. However, in the off-chance that the naturalization is for a spouse or a child, follow the Project Instructions:

    • If a naturalization document was filled out in behalf of a spouse or child, index the information about the child or spouse as the principal person. For documents created in behalf of a child, do not add entries in the data entry area to index the names of the parents.

The chance of having a spouse or child be the primary person is slim, but it has happened. My last child applicant was in the New York Naturalization project, which was around 2019.
