S, New York, Onondaga—Indexes to Mortgagors, 1794–1870 [Part A][MQ36-M9V]

I am reviewing and am confused about the Mortgagee's name in the third row. It is J Hoar Com* of. My question: Is' Com*of' a name or a term used in deed records?

I've puzzled over this and researched, but can't figure it out.

Thanks kindly, Jane

It is a descriptive term and should not be indexed, according to the PI.

    • When typing the name of the mortgagee or mortgagor, do not include descriptive words or terms, such as "by Atty," "et al," or "and spouse," that may have been written with the name.

If you are doing research on an indexed document, any name you come across that is typed with a ? or * ex. Com* usually means it could not be read by the indexer. If you are an indexer, follow instructions as written.

I was confused because of not being familiar with that particular term. Thank you both for your help.
