Since Joseph Smith Jr. [KWJY-BPD] has a read only record, no ordinary FamilySearch patron like me can merge his record with another one, which is why I am bringing this up here.

Emma Hale [KWJY-BP8] (read only) also has a duplicate with Emma Hale [GV3R-X4V].

It is understandable why FamilySearch would want to keep the profiles of leading Church members as read-only. However, they appear to not have either the resources or the will to remove (or lock) the many profiles that are added to Family Tree relating to Joseph Smith Jr. or other leaders.

I believe FamilySearch has a section that will consider requests to amend locked records (though this would only be carried out by an administrator) and even - in certain cases (though probably not this one) - to make them open-edit, so a merge can be undertaken.

A moderator should be able to advise you better on the issue, passing any appropriate request for change in status / correction of detail to the team that deals with such matters.
