Expanded abilities
Would it be possible to allow some functions to be targeted by the person that has focus? The one that triggered this thought was the Activities Tab. I was showing my wife what was possible using Family Search and clicked on Famous Relatives. After looking at it she asked if we could look at it as it related to her. I could not find a way other than creating a user account for her I did so but could not get it to use her as the living person I had already set up. I may have missed something in trying to set it up. Since there are now two accounts for her I will delete that account as I feel it takes up space unnecessarily.
So my thought is if I clicked on her and then on the button to open her "person view" wouldn't she then have focus? All the menu headers are still visible above this view, including "Activities". Then clicking on Activities and then Famous Relatives would open as the screen for her. This may be helpful in getting people more interested in Genealogy. Also it may open up more research ideas as people can look at different aspects of their relatives.

Profiles for living people are only visible to the person who entered them.
Your wife does not have two accounts. She just has two profiles, one that you entered, and one that was automatically created when you signed her up for an account. This is exactly as designed. Both profiles should be connected to the same deceased relatives, but living people will have separate profiles in each person's account.

Don't worry about "tak[ing] up space unnecessarily. There is plenty of room. There is also no concern for having duplicates of living people going from oneself to the first deceased ancestors.
I'm pretty confident that anyone from FamilySearch would reply to your concern with the answer that the best way of "getting people more interested in Genealogy. [And opening] up more research ideas as people can look at different aspects of their relatives" is to get each individual to open their own FamilySearch account and explore all of that is available personally.
