How do I know how to review columns without headings?

I opened cemetery records for Johannesburg Avalon Cemetery that have a list of names and information, but there are no headings to tell me which names are deceased and which are someone wanting to bury that person? Again, the dates are similar. Can you tell me where the indexer got their information? Also, they have indexed names together even though they are in different columns.

I don’t work on this project, but this might help. For part of your question, here is a citation from the “What to Remember About This Project” section of the Project Instructions:

    • Some images in this project lack column headings. If a document does not show column headings, check the column headings on the previous or next image to see what information each column contains. If the previous and next images do not show column headings, the sample images may give you an idea of what each column refers to. After checking the previous and next images and the sample image, if you are not sure what the columns refer to, press Ctrl+B to mark the necessary fields blank.

The last/bottom vertical toolbar icon - it looks like an open book - reveals or hides the reference images (“previous and next images”).

@John Empoliti Can you help me find the Sample Image? I am also working on a Johannesburg record, also without column headings. I've found those instructions you pasted above in my Project Instructions, and can find Reference Images on the interface, but am not seeing a Sample Image. The way I interpret those instructions is that there is a difference between the Reference Images and the Sample Image. If this is the case, where is the Sample Image located on the interface? I've been all over FamilySearch's help documentation and am not seeing mention of it. Much thanks!

without a batch number for the particular batch you are working on it is very difficult to give an answer.

This project has records of many different types and they are not all covered by the sample images that are found in the project instructions and field helps.

if your image is spreadsheet form with many columns I would suggest you see the post below.

Unfortunately this same problem is going to keep recurring. The way the project is set up this info does not show on most batches. Column headings are only viewable on the first image of the film. This current batch is from Avalon Cemetery

Tbe “sample images” are the images in the Examples. Sometimes they match the style or type of form used in your batch, but often they don’t. The last Example in the Project Instruction for this project shows how to index the following image.

    image.png

if this is is the same type/style of register as your batch, then you have your column headings from this “sample image.” If not, then you can follow the advice of the instructions I cited or take more extreme measures and try to find the beginning of your Batch’s film and perhaps derive the column headings from it, as was suggested in another post. For more specific help, please post your Share Batch code as Larry has suggested. Help>Share Batch shows you how.
