Attach a person to a source that is removed from the source box
I am very happy with the possibility to attach sources not in FS to persons in FamilyTree. The way I proceed is that I create a new source in my source box and then attach persons to that source. Works like a charm.
I understood from this forum that my source box is not intended to keep the sources I added permanently. So I removed quite a few sources from my source box. As stated, this does not remove the sources completely. The removed sources are still present and can be found in the persons pages. I still can edit my sources, and I can detach the source from the person. But how can I attach another person to a source that I removed from the source box?
(If this were not possible, detaching a private source from a person would be permanent.)

If you've removed the citation from your box, then the only way to add it to further profiles is to create a copy and attach that. This "breaks the chain": edits to instances of the copy will not change instances of the original, and vice versa.
I consider this inability to add to a citation group that you don't have in your box to be one of the two flaws of FamilySearch's otherwise-brilliant Source Box concept. (The other one is that linked citations look exactly the same as unlinked ones.) I've come up against this limitation both for source citations created by others, and for citations that I created myself, but either forgot the dratted checkbox or got overzealous (or premature) in cleaning up. Currently, if the citation is not in your Source Box, then the only way to add to the group is to rebuild it completely, which is a lot of work and makes you look like an exhibitionist besides, if it was started by someone else. (I made a suggestion about it last year: https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/120662/can-we-please-have-an-attach-button-on-viewed-sources#latest.)
However, there is a little bit of good news: detaching a source from a profile is not permanent, because you can restore it using the changelog.
