Re the race of the child - it does not list it. It has the race of both parents. If the mom and dad are both white - should I list "assume" the child is white?
We do not assume/infer/speculate anything. The child's race is to be left blank.
@Áine Ní Donnghaile and @erutherford -- Every image in batch I reviewed this evening had to be corrected to <blank> because the indexer didn't either read or follow the Project Instructions. I bring this to your attention so that the Race/Color Box can be eliminated from indexing or some other solution can be found --- I've reviewed over 72K records in my several years of indexing, so I don't think its me 😎 Add to this the number of indexers who struggle with cursive and you can see this project presents some real challenges
@maryellenstevensbarnes1 I've been reviewing these and I've had to correct every Color/Race field so far. I've only reviewed 7,500; I concentrate on indexing (214K+ over 5 years), and this is the first time I've seen this. I understand why that field is there, and in other projects, but why not make it an optional field like some of the fields were in the Muster Rolls projects?
@maryellenstevensbarnes1 I'm curious why you felt a need to tag me in this thread.
I don't think the indexers struggled with cursive writing as much as it is that they just didn't pay attention to the directions. I had the same problem with almost every record that I reviewed in that project. That just happens every so often when there is a project that is a bit different and the indexers do not read the directions correctly.
Maybe it would help if the directions to "leave it blank" were put under the purple question mark
@Áine Ní Donnghaile I tagged you because I thought maybe you are one of the moderators or associated with FS in such a way that you might be able to help effect changes/improvements in PI. Your comments & explanations are always helpful and insightful. 😎
