We are having a real problem teaching the youth or new members how to index because there are no beginning ones or even easy intermediate. When does family search plan on releasing some more indexing batches for beginners? we have showed them the name checking but they are ready for something more in depth

The Iowa WWI project is Intermediate, but works more like a Beginner batch.

    Sjohnson:

Can you share some ideas about teaching youth to index? The stake would like to have an event to teach YW and YM indexing. I am puzzling about ideas to help with this. I know it's important to get new indexers started so we have plenty of indexers in the pipeline for the work that is available (even when this is very few projects and rarely Beginning projects). Our stake indexer community is dwindling partly because they are aging and partly because of the availability of projects. Young people are needed to help now and in the future!

I am in charge of indexing in my stake. There used to be an introductory, self-taught batch at the beginning of indexing to help new indexers learn. It seems to be gone. I used to use that to let people get the feel for indexing and then give them a beginning batch to work on. It was very successful. That method doesn't work anymore.

About two weeks ago, I had someone want to learn indexing. All there was available to teach her was naturalizations. I love doing naturalizations but there is a lot involved to do them correctly. I knew that wouldn't work, but it was all there was to work on. She had been asked to start teaching indexing to mothers and daughters in her ward. No surprise, she gave up. About two months ago, there was another person who was desperate to find something to do to fill up his time. I worked with him several times. He did a few and gave up. In the past, that didn't happen. People got excited and stayed excited.

I have long-time indexers in some of my wards who have decided to give up on indexing for awhile. I can't give them any explanations why it has changed. I would like to know what I can tell people to know what is in the future.

The Guided Tour is still available. On the Indexing Page, click on the green Indexing Help button above My Indexing Totals. The Guided Tour is the first link on the left.
