Make Dates in Memories Changeable/Addable By Anyone
My sisters and I love FamilySearch. We have recently discovered in the new view that you can sort the photos by date.
It would be wonderful if you could make the DATE field in the memories open so that anyone could add the date. So many people don't add the date and then unfortunately those photos are stuck at the bottom of the the photo section in haphazard order and people who didn't add the photos can't add the date so they will sort.
Thanks for all you do! What would we do without FamilySearch!

We shared your feedback with the product manager and he has informed us that you will have the option and it is planned in a future release.

Comment: if there is an original date included from the contributor - I hope that original date will also be shown? That others can correct/contribute will be great - but the originating metadata should remain?

Love the new date that can be added to each photo and document in memories. However, only the person who added the photo or document can add the event date. It would be better if anyone can add the event date, as many photos have been added many years ago.

I am tagging people in memories who have not been tagged. I would love to add an event date but cannot since i did not put in the document/photo. I echo the sentiments expressed above. I don't think there would be much problem of people messing up this feature as who has enough time to do that?!

Family Search has created a new filtering option that allows memories to be filtered by event date. This is a wonderful option that adds power to the stories told through the Memory feature. Unfortunately, when memories are added by another person, if that person did not include an event date, this filtering option is weakened, as those memories drift to the bottom of the search.
It would be helpful to allow people to edit event dates for memories created by others. Right now the only option is to contact the original submitting person and ask that person to edit the event date, and this is a cumbersome approach. This problem becomes particularly important when memories have been added by deceased people, and you cannot ask them to edit the event date.

With the new ability to filter memories by dates (which is great because it creates a better timeline experience), it only works if the memories have a date associated with them. My father, when he was alive, submitted many photos but did not bother to include dates. He is now passed and we have found out that we cannot add dates to the photos he attached. We contacted the Support desk and was informed that this is correct. We think there should be a way for others who may know something about a memory to provide additional information, such as a date or location. Especially when the original contributor is no longer available to do so.

mod note - merged several ideas so users know this is being worked on.

Being able to edit the event date of a memory by someone other than the person who posted the memory is very important to me and I suspect to many others. Our son, who has passed, put a large number of photos on as an activity he could do during his cancer treatments. He did not put event dates on and we can not now edit them and take advantage of filtering by event date.

@AmbersonEugeneRoger Condolences on your son's passing. Yes, continuing to edit photos he uploaded would be a great memorial/activity.
I hope the Family Groups sharing feature announced at Rootstech 2023 will allow sharing of all Memories a group member adds to the entire Family Group - to resolve such possible issues - including inheritance wishes. For example, upon my passing if the feature automatically transferred such photos to an existing Family Group - that would be great. The process for a Family Group to retroactively access such Memories uploaded in the past might require FamilySearch intervention. Hopefully they will develop a method for such to occur. Have you asked FamilySearch Support whether such will be an option for you? Perhaps @Maile L or @Caleb L could also let us know if such options are being considered?
