New account conflict
My mother passed in August, 2022. I did not know much about her family. As I searched for information on her father, who died when Mom was a child, I stumbled on FamilySearch. Wow, this was a real blessing for me in my search. I registered for an account and began fleshing out missing information on my brothers and our wives, children and grandchildren. My wife has seen the work and information I've been working with and got excited about her family. She registered for an account, getting a different identification code than the one assigned when I created her as my wife. Now she has two unrelated numbers that do not recognize each other... so I can't combine them. How can I change her IDs so she can more effectively do research and update records for her family's history? Her two identifiers are GJ1M-L4B (new account for access) and GJVM-914 (identifying her in our families). Combining them to the second identifier would be great. Deleting the access account and allowing her to register the second as her access account would also work. Or you folks could do some magic (I find your site quite impressive and magical).

Profiles for the living only show in the private space of the person who created that profile. So - you created a profile for your wife, which has one PID. Your wife created her own profile, which has a different PID.
That's how the system is designed to protect the privacy of the living.

Thank you for your quick response. However, how does she connect with all of her family before we were married and how does she connect to me, our three children and our 9 grandchildren without creating duplication? Can she use my PID as her first connection with her PID without creating a second wife for me?

Deceased persons are in the public tree space, so you can easily collaborate on them there.
For living persons, you both could share a tree file in a 3rd party software such at RootsMagic on a desktop computer at home. Then you could each synch that file separately to your personal accounts on FamilySearch.

Add living family members to connect to the mutual deceased members.
For example, I have added my husband and his parents (who are alive) and connected them to his deceased grandparents. He has also added his parents and linked them to his deceased grandparents in his own account. His grandparents in my tree are the same ID numbers as his grandparents in his tree. But his ID number and his parents' IDs are not (because they are alive).
When someone dies, everyone who has a copy of that person can mark their copy deceased and all the records can then be merged, This is a privacy protection for the living but anything attached as a source or memory to one of these living people is still attached when the ID is marked deceased. So, when you finally merge all the records for a deceased person all the memories and research are compiled into the final record.

Thank you. This helped a lot. She added her deceased parents to her account and they did not show up as duplicates on my account. She is now happy with her ability to research her family.
