Hello @AnneLoForteWillson, @ChristineWagner9,
Here is my interpretation of the entry for Wilhelm Tepper:
Wilhelm Tepper
Gefr. = Gefreiter. This is a military rank. Thode, German-English Genealogical Dictionary, translates this as: infantry lance corporal; able seaman; artillery bombadier.
24. 12. = possibly a date, 24 December, but not sure what it is in reference to.
Sontop, Neutomischel = the village of Sontop in the district of Neutomischel in Posen. Here is the link for Sontop from Meyers Gazetteer: https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/20833050
l. v. = leicht verwundet = slightly wounded.

I believe the most appropriate translation of Gefreiter with regard to US military ranks is Private First Class (PFC).

Always easier to read from the record, which can be enlarged and manipulated, rather than from a small snip. URL - https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/994362?mark=aeb9f9c8974e30d6d3139f07e0af13f15fe5f31987a4f91cf8412591fdcb8914
