Mistake in preliminary message

I am working US, Pennsylvania, Western District—Naturalizations, 1820–1930 [Part A][MQSH-J2W].

When you pull up each batch, a preliminary message states that there is only 1 record per image now. When you pull up the first image, it is declarations of intention, and there are obviously 2 records per image. I am indexing both records as they are not for the same person and there are no overlays to confuse the indexer or cover up information. I'm not sure why we are getting the message that says there is only 1 record? Please advise.

For [MQSH-J2W], the reason for the message is instead of four records per batch, most are now just 1 record. The reasons that this batch has four may be that it slipped through the cracks or you may have had this record prior to the change. Batches that are checked out from now until the project is finished will only have 1 record. I personally have 2 batches that have four records each that I had pre-conversion. Index this batch as you would any other batch. in the one record batches, keep an eye out for overlays and index them according to the How To Index Overlays instructions.

I am working on these records and am a bit confused by the statement as well. As far as I understand Declarations of Intention are supposed to be indexed, so each batch would contain records for two persons- the person whose Dec of Intention is on the first page along with the person whose naturalizations are there as well, sometimes overlapping on the Dec of Intention.

    Hi, The message states:

There is now only 1 image per batch in this project.

Image is different than record or entry. 1 image could show more than 1 record or could require multiple entries. Image just refers to the photo of the page or pages or document.

    Hope this makes sense.🙂

    And is of some help.

Larry's exactly right. The window says "1 image", which means photograph. One image could have one record or a hundred records, so just index however many records are on that one image.

The project started with 4 images per batch, so there are might be 4 for a little while. They switched this to a beginner project a couple of days ago and now have one image per batch. It is going to be a lot better since the overlay instruction also says:

    • If the overlay shows a record that should be indexed in this project, index the overlay.
    • If the document behind the overlay is a record that should be indexed in this project, do not index the information on the partially-covered document.

Beginners will not have to worry about what to do with overlays since it is well explained and they aren't looking at large batches with lots of images.
