Divorce records

I often receive divorce records to index. Until now, I have always sent them back without indexing, but I'm not quite sure whether there is anything else that needs to be done with those.

? In Indexing I have to request a batch before receiving it - which project are you receiving batches from? Help menu Share Batch option should give a couple codes you can paste in Comment here - that will help to see instructions. If the project instructions indicate not to index divorce records then I guess sending them back is ok.

    Thank you for your response!

I get batches in Dutch and French from Belgium (which is where I'm from) and when I start indexing I have to choose among three possible electronic forms for each record: birth, death or marriage. So I have no way to index a divorce, unless there is something in the indexing system that I haven't discovered yet.

Thank you that clarifies. I believe for divorce you would choose record type = marriage - because it is dissolution of the previous marriage. FamilySearch could update the record type to Marriage/Divorce to clarify?

Thanks for getting back to me again. I'm not sure that works - how does one know that it's a divorce if the marriage hasn't been indexed and the divorce has? It would be clearer if there were a separate option for divorces. Or would that be impossible to add?

The index is used to help find the record - the correct type of marriage event - divorce - currently the user has to select when attaching it to the Tree. If FamilySearch wanted to they certainly could adjust the record types to smooth/automate that event entry - but right now that's a new Idea which you can suggest (from Community> Submit an Idea).
