I am currently indexing US, Pennsylvania, Western District—Naturalizations, 1820–1930 [Part A][MQSH-N5R] and notice that the signature of the applicants does not match the name of the applicant at the top, this is for image two. This is for the applicant number 8904 and 8905. The information from 8904, I believe belongs to the previous applicant number of 8903. The signature on 8904 of Andreas Dzurcsanjn, I believe this goes to the information on 8905, which means the signature on 8905 of Stanislaw Paocha has no information. I have looked back 5 images and forward four images and no information match the signature on 8905. I am not sure how to index both of these images, any help would be greatly appreciated. I have saved these images for someone to look at.

Thank you in advance.

This looks to be a mix up at the time of signature/recording. Naturalization records at this time were not perfect, so I would go ahead and index Cenko and Andras and disregard the signatures.

I would use the Or between the given and surnames, treating them as variations:

    • Include all aliases, nicknames, or variant names or surnames that were given for a person, separating them with the word "Or."

We can't assume that the signatures were not theirs. Also, if you don't index the names, they can never be found on a search. Let the researcher who finds them interpret the validity of the image.
