Notified about non-relatives

I received the following feedback from one of our guests:  "Family Search corporate continues to notify me of more connections based on false information. I’m constantly receiving notices on more information of my great-great grandfather who is not really my gggrandfather.

My question is… should Family Search propel elementary conjecture of ancestral connections by sending emails enticing me to look at more false information on my ancestors? Every email from Family Search has become cringe-worthy now.

It simply didn’t used to be that way."

Please take whatever action is necessary to change this guests current negative experience with FamilySearch email campaigns.

Thanks.

Hints are not facts and sometimes they will be incorrect. However if you stop them you will not get any more that might be correct. It is best to reject the ones that are incorrect as this is way the hints work. If you find a record hint that does not apply to anyone in your tree, dismiss the hint so that no one attaches it by mistake. Do not dismiss the record hint if you attached a similar record hint. Attach it instead. If you dismiss duplicate record hints, the hinting system is less reliable in finding record hints in the future about a person. What to do to with an incorrect record hint.

    1. Click the record hint. A summary box appears with details about the record hint.
    2. Click Review and Attach.
    3. For each person, click the down arrow that appears between the record and the Family Tree sides. Compare the names, dates, relationships, and locations.
    4. If the record is about a different person, click Not a Match.
    5. Enter an explanation of why the record is not a match.
    6. Click Save.
    7. If the hint still appears for the person, refresh the browser page.

I keep getting messages about people it says I am related to, but I am not. How do I take them off or how do I take myself off their family tree? It is really annoying to show wrong father, wrong grandparents, etc. and no easy way to show they are not related to me.

The accuracy of these notifications depends on the relationships that are found in the Family Tree. If there is an incorrect relationship, you are welcome to edit that. Please see the article "How do I correct parent-child relationships in Family Tree?" if you need help.
