Indexing the Familiar

It would be easier and in line with my own research if I could select the NLI Record myself. I am very familiar with many of the parishes in Ireland. I find reading the names in those Parishes very easy. I am also looking for Familial names in each of these Parishes. However, to keep the identity of the 'indexed' Parish a 'mystery' and not allow me to select a particular Parish is a definite road block to me wanting to help index any records. We need LESS oversight, Not MORE. What could Family Search possibly be wonting to keep 'secure' by using heavy oversight. I use NLI records just the same as the Extraction program does.

I find many records on FamilySearch (particularly for Essex) where the parish is not shown. I have been advised that this happens where the record custodian has not granted permission for FamilySearch to publish the full detail from its records. This is possibly due to them wanting researchers to get the full detail (including parish) from their website - often fee-paying - or to pay them for a copy of the original PR entry.

In respect of indexing, again a particular set of records will only be available to be indexed by FamilySearch volunteers if the organisation has been granted permission (by the record custodian).
