How are microfilms accessed?

I have a 7-digit microfilm number, also the Film item, Frame, Reg and Source numbers for a record I found in a search.

How do I go from here and find out iwhether there is a digitized record I can access and, if so, how I can view it. Also, how do I order a copy if it's not available online?

Thank you for any information.

All microfilms can be found in the FamilySearch Catalog, and you can search by film number (https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog)

Make sure you are signed into your FS account beforehand. If beside a film you see a camera symbol, click on it and you can view a digitized copy of the film. A microfilm roll indicates the film is not viewable online, and a camera/key symbol indicates access restrictions: click on the symbol and you will see a message with further details.

If you can't view the film online, you may be able to use the FHL Lookup service (https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/FamilySearch_Library_Lookup_Services). Whether you will be given a copy of the page you are interested in, a transcription only or nothing depends on contractual, privacy and legal factors.
