Correcting Ord. data

Some persons, especially it often happens to those born long ago, who have Ordinances completed also long ago, now have problems where some original dates are missing. Example is when the computer insists that Baptisms and Confirmations are missing yet all the rest of the ordinances are complete and dated. We know that if an Endowment was done that the B/C were also done...usually just prior so why do it again?

I was told that often the dates go missing when merging etc has been done over the years, and that when you eventually join the person this would get fixed. HOWEVER, this is not always the answer. So my suggestion is to program your computers to locate these problems and either find the correct dates or just put completed so others will not feel the work needs doing....again.

My husband found one of these and (without me knowing) re baptized and confirmed one of these people. A pure waste of time. If the computer cannot locate these problems and fix them, then make a way for 'us' to do it.

Look at Johann Ulrich Ackermann GXVS-6S3 Ordinances

Walter Ackermann MRL6-MRL to see what I am talking about.

    When you're using words repeatedly in non-standard definitions, such as "ordinance" meaning something other than "law or regulation", or "endowment" meaning something other than "natural ability" or "substantial gift to an institution", consider it a big clue that your question belongs in the Temple category, because it makes no sense to the rest of us.

    @Julia Szent-Györgyi

    I'm usually willing to expand my vocabulary or understanding of terms when I don't understand something. Of course on the other hand - I don't spend all day in the dictionary ...

    FamilySearch due to sponsorship by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will commonly use terminology understood amongst members. For reference to usage of these terms see:

    Ordinance

    Endowment

    I think you are already aware that the terms correlate to the term sacraments - as used in some churches? So I don't understand your complaint about them being used. You can just take such references as such - or ignore them - no need to comment if not understood ...

    From my understanding there is a specific group that works to help us locate those old ordinances, just place the info in the Temple category and those helping will respond and work with you. I have had several ancestors already that I report and they can find and fix them.
